The Mixing Formula!

Here's an easy one familiar to all you algebra students!

Aa+Bb=Cc

Capital letters express quantities and lowercase express properties.

Let's say I have 200bbls of beer at 7.15%abv. How much abv will I have if I add 100bbl of water?

A=200bbl
a=7.15abv
B=100bbl
b=0%abv (water)
C=300bbl (after dilution)
c=x

(200*7.17)+(100*0)=300x
1420+0=300x
1420/300=x
x=4.77

It also works for color!

Hey, that's the same principle as the decoction equation where "arbitrary heat units" are used.

As an aside, are you enjoying the class? Are you getting into the "rhythm?" Enjoying the 'mates?

OMG Kevin. This brewing shit sure is boring. Tell us more about Chicago. How are you feeling? What are your hopes and dreams? Who are your new friends? Any girls in your class? Interesting drama between classmates? Where is the human interest?

Shanna tells me you are pretty self-important right now so you will probably think I am being a punk. But, seriously, c'mon, really.
